Spend your Christmas lunch at one of Stellenbosch’s wine estates

Posted on Mon December 8, 2014.

Christmas is coming and, with it, the expectation of a fabulous lunch with loved ones. The best option is to spend it in the Stellenbosch Winelands; not only will you be surrounded by the jaw-dropping beauty of the area, but you will be able to feast on dishes cooked to perfection and sip on the some of the best vintages in the world.

Lanzerac

The buffet lunch at Lanzerac is ideal for large groups who want as large a variety. There is something for everyone on the menu –from a traditional carvery beef fillet with all the trimmings, leg of lamb, oxtail in a Pinotage sauce and baked ham to classic desserts like the scrumptious Christmas cake, red velvet cakes and dark chocolate mousse. The estate at Lanzerac is spectacular and has plenty of room for the children to play and the adults to rest easy and enjoy a first-class lunch.

Those booking for a gourmet Christmas lunch will be presented with sweet corn and prawn risotto and brown butter sauce, roast pork crackling and mustard jus followed by an upside down cherry pudding with gluhwein ice cream, among other fantastic options available for starters, mains and dessert. Hazendal

The sprawling estate of Hazendal is holding a Christmas buffet lunch in their restaurant, Hermitage. Hermitage is set in a traditional thatch-roof building, linked to the estate’s wine cellar and leads out onto rambling, green lawns, where you can view the majesty of the Stellenbosch Mountains. Guests can choose a table inside or outside and the lawns will host a jumping castle on Christmas Day for the children to play on. This old-world aesthetic is perfect for those seeking a tranquil day out with the best of Stellenbosch’s food and wine. On the menu are various options for both meat-eaters and vegetarians; such as gammon and linefish for the former and gazpacho soup and vegetable quiche for the latter. Dessert is a sumptuous affair, with Christmas trifles, mini-cakes and cookies all ready to sate your palate.
