Our home, your home in the heart of Stellenbosch

Bonne Esperance has been part of Van Riebeeck Street since 1907. The house retains much of its original character, from its wrap-around veranda and intricate “broekie lace” cast-iron detailing to its distinctive corner turret. Set diagonally opposite the Stellenbosch Botanical Gardens, it is also just a five-minute stroll from the town centre, along an oak-lined street with the old Mill Stream running alongside.

Where we began

In 2006, three families with deep ties to Stellenbosch, took ownership of the house. With care and respect for its heritage, they restored it and transformed it into the four-star guest house it is today.

Since then, Bonne Esperance has grown beyond the main house. Our self-catering Studio Apartments and private Villa offer guests more ways to stay, all within easy walking distance of one another.

The people

Annemien, Michelle and Carmen look after the house day to day, but they’ll be the first to tell you that it takes a whole team to make Bonne Esperance what it is. From our front-of-house and guest experience teams to our cooks, barista, housekeepers, handyman and gardener, everyone takes pride in creating a welcoming place to stay.
