Be sure to make a booking or arrive early. This is a very cosy, intimate restaurant where you can have a great meal with an affordable price tag. They offer fantastic burgers, pasta dishes and steak.

Rediscover the flavours and textures of good, honest food – which lie in the heart of South African cuisine. Some of the items on the menu are Quail, Lamb Rib Chops and Franschhoek Salmon Trout. This restaurant also one of the only two restaurants (Oppie Dorp being the other) in the city centre to feature on Tripadvisor as one of the top 10 restaurants of the Stellenbosch area

University Botanical Garden – diagonally across from Bonne Esperance
This Stellenbosch institution offers variety of light meals, good coffee and a small internet café at the back of the restaurant.

Lunch buffet – healthy, sumptuous and fresh! Good coffee and cake (especially the baklava!) Indoors or al fresco under the oak trees.

Schoon de Companje
Saving the best for last. A must for lunch of charcuterie, local cheeses and artisan breads. They also have a lovely wine cellar and a craft beer bar.
