Our Top 5: Golf Courses in the Winelands

Bonne Esperance Guest House is situated within driving distance from some of best golf courses the Western Cape has to offer. Beautiful natural surroundings and rolling vineyards make for the perfect setting for a good game of golf, especially after the great rainy season we have just had.

Only a 10 minute drive from the guest house, this golf course offers a view of  beautiful vineyards, has one of the oldest clubhouses in South Africa and is the 4th oldest course in the country. The course layout is parklands that meanders through the large trees that frame most holes and where every hole seems distinct and memorable. 

Level of Difficulty: Very fair and rewarding.

Located in the beautiful Kleine Zalze Wine Estate, this course has numerous water hazards and exceptional views from elevated tees making it the perfect test for all golfers. The course has a mix of parkland holes, as well as the Oak tree lined Blaauwklippen river which winds its way through the Golf Estate and comes into play at various intervals.

Level of Difficulty: Moderate

Devonvale Golf & Wine Estate combines a working wine farm and exclusive residential estate with a world-class championship golf course to make for a perfect winelands escape. This is a tree-lined curving course with sweeping fairways and you may even have some wildlife joining you on the game. You can look forward to 5-star changing rooms for both ladies and gentlemen and a halfway house with a  terraced bar and lounge to relax during a hot day!

Level of Difficulty: Moderate

Located in Paarl, 40 minutes from Stellenbosch, this course is well worth the drive, as its been consistently voted in the top 3 courses in South Africa. The championship course has two signature holes, the 4th and 13th , both of which offer magnificent views of the surrounding mountains and lakes, with the 4th hole regularly listed as one of the best par 5’s in South Africa. The course layout is a blend of parklands and links.

Level of difficulty: Difficult

Nestled in the heart of Somerset West, surrounded by the majestic Hottentots Holland Mountains and various award winning wineries, this golf course offers a parkland layout. Featuring an 18-hole championship course designed by Gary Player, the course offers a unique golfing challenge to all levels of players.
